A DAY OFF IS NOT A DAY OFF FROM LIFE
As women, we are always trying to find the perfect happy medium of looking put together and not looking like we are trying too hard. The weather is warming up and we need products that stay put and won’t melt away while we are running around! Whether it’s trip to the market or just meeting a friend for coffee, here a few steps to getting a natural look without having to load on a million products. These are some of my favorites…
SPF!! Repeat after me. S.P.F. Thank you! If you’re ever looking to feel comfy in your own skin without makeup (and prevent wrinkles, sun spots and skin cancer), apply sun protection daily. I like an SPF with a serum texture that disappears into the skin and acts like a primer. My favorites are AmorePacific
Natural Protector SPF 30/PA+++, Kate Somerville Daily Deflector™ Waterlight Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ PA+++ Anti-Aging Sunscreen and Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid.
Waterproof Cream Shadow: By applying a cream shadow in a neutral color, you even out the eyelid color, control oil production and add brightness to the face with this one simple step. I like to use MAC’s Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Soft Ochre or Painterly, or Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Shore or Malted. To add a little dimension, I add Almond from Burberry Beauty or MAC’s Soba or Wedge in the crease. Tip: Add a little liner if you have time. I like Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eyeliner to thicken the lashline.
Lightweight Foundation, BB or CC Cream: A sheer formula that offers a little coverage is all you need for a day of errands or fun. MAKE UP FOR EVER Face & Body Liquid Make-up is a favorite because the formula is sheer to medium coverage and locks into the face without settling into lines or pores. I also LOVE Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 and AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50+.
Concealer: Kill two birds with one stone by concealing tired or dark under eyes and highlighting the face with a hydrating concealer. My go to is MAC Mineralize Concealer. Another great option is Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. Both have a great natural finish. Tip: Apply the product in a “V” under the eye (inner eye rim to the top of the cheek and out towards the top of the ear) and buff it in with a fluffy eye shadow brush. Set the concealer with Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder. This powder sets the concealer so it doesn’t settle into lines and has light reflection so you get a nice highlight out of it as well J
Bronzer, Blush or Both! If you love a great contour, go right ahead! Lightly (please…lightly!) contour the face (cheekbones, temples and jawline) with a soft bronzer like Laguna from Nars or Jouer Mattifying Powder Bronzer in Sunswept. I love those and my Anastasia Contour Kit! For blush, I love a soft pink like Peony from Burberry Beauty, Jouer Rose Blush or a soft peach like Armani’s Cheek Fabric in Shade 502. I have found all of these add a little color to the face and have excellent staying power. I just recently purchased Armani’s Maestro Blush and Limited Edition Summertime Bronzer. These are liquid formulas. I’m super excited to try them so I can fill you in!
Brows: Fill in and/or shape your brows. They frame your pretty little face and complete your look. Even if you decide to rebel and apply zero makeup, doing your brows makes all the difference. I like all of Anastasia’s brow products, but my favorite is the Brow Whiz. I also like Aqua Brow from Make Up For Ever. Use either of these and your eyebrows will. not. budge.
Mascara: Ok. I lied. If I was going to be stuck on a desert island (or run to Whole Foods), I wouldn’t just fill my brows. I’d wear mascara too. I have found that the blackest black and flake free formulas are L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black (available in waterproof as well) and Dior Diorshow Blackout Mascara. One coat is great. Two coats and you’re fab!
Lip Color: Choose a color/formula that looks natural and adds a hint of color without taking away from your “I Woke Up Like This” look. For a glossy finish without having to reapply, try YSL’s Glossy Stains or L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lip Lacquer. Lately I have also been way intoTarte LipSurgence Lip Luster, Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm and Burberry Beauty’s Lip Mist formulas. They are tinted lip balm and keep your lips so soft all day.
With just a handful of products, you can be out the door in 10 minutes. I promise. It’s not hard or scary at all! Go ahead…try it out!
